Job Description

ERL is a leading manufacturer of Engineered equipment for the marine industry, specifically supporting liquid cargo barges. Our product lines include overfill protection systems, tank level gauging devices, pressure/vacuum relief valves, and barge pumps. We are seeking an experienced and detail-driven Quality Manager to lead and manage quality assurance across our manufacturing operations.
This role is responsible for ensuring that all components meet customer, industry, and regulatory specifications through precise inspection processes, quality oversight, and equipment calibration management. The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience with inspection, quality systems, and supporting a production environment that includes fabrication, CNC machining, Product Testing, and mechanical assembly

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Oversee quality inspections for incoming materials, in-process fabrication, CNC-machined components, and final assemblies related to marine barge systems.
  • Perform and lead inspections using precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, thread gauges, and Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMMs).
  • Ensure the quality of critical marine products including overfill protection devices, level gauges, relief valves, and vertical pumps.
  • Develop and maintain robust quality control procedures, inspection documentation, and compliance standards for marine industry regulations.
  • Create and maintain list of Critical to Quality (CTQ)  items.
  • Create process and procedure to inspect CTQ items and lead the specification, purchasing, organization, maintenance and calibration of inspection tooling.
  • Investigate product and process non-conformances; lead root cause analysis and corrective/preventive action processes.
  • Collaborate with engineering, CNC programming, welding, and assembly teams to resolve issues and drive continuous improvement.
  • Assist in performing failure analysis reports as needed.
  • Manage the calibration and certification of all critical CNC equipment, inspection gaging tools, and quality-related instrumentation.
  • Ensure that measurement tools, fixtures, and calibration systems are traceable, up-to-date, and compliant with internal and external requirements.
  • Provide training and support to production and quality personnel in inspection techniques and quality standards.
 

Job Requirements

  • 5+ years of quality control or quality management experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably involving CNC machining and assembly of mechanical systems.
  • Strong working knowledge of precision measuring tools, CMMs, and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Experience managing calibration programs for CNC machinery, inspection gauges, and test equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings and marine equipment specifications.
  • Proficiency in root cause analysis methods and quality tools (8D, 5 Whys, Fishbone, etc.).
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and quality software systems (e.g., QC-CALC, PC-DMIS, calibration tracking tools).
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Quality, or a related field; equivalent work experience may be considered.
